A grieving therapist starts telling his clients exactly what he thinks, and by ignoring his training and ethics, he makes huge changes in people’s lives — including his own. When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel, and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford on the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted to look like “Harrison Ford” and would test with people who looked like Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they had to pitch the project to Ford first, thinking that he would immediately reject it, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford had been offered the project, which would pique the interest of other big-name actors.

Yes, real therapists wouldn’t act this way, but anyone with a functioning brain cell would know that, so criticism from that perspective is just negative demotion. Yes, but no offense should be taken, and none should be taken, FYI.

Finally, who knew what a great light comedy actor Harrison Ford was?

I worked with a gay man who had the exact stereotype shown here. The real success is combining the seriousness of therapy and grief with the growing pains of living at different ages, stages, and stages of life, and making it very funny. A complete revelation and for that alone it’s worth watching this series.
